Poland ratifies Lisbon Treaty

10.10.2009 - Press release

At midday today, Polish President Lech Kaczynski, with his signature, completed his country’s ratification process for the Lisbon Treaty. The Treaty has now been ratified by 26 of the 27 EU member countries.

Commenting on this, Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier issued today (10 October) in Berlin the following statement:

I am pleased that today’s signing by President Kaczynski represents the last milestone but one towards the Treaty’s entry into force. The Lisbon Treaty is the necessary basis for a united, strong Europe, which Germany and Poland will continue to work towards as close partners and friends.

We greatly hope that Poland’s ratification will now soon clear the path for the Lisbon Treaty in the Czech Republic as well.”
