There has been a state of emergency in Somalia for over 20 years. In order to be able to provide rapid support in acute emergencies, Germany has donated ten million euros to the United Nations’ Somalia Humanitarian Fund.
Much is at stake in this country, where civil war has been waged for decades. The Federal Foreign Office has decided to provide another three million euros of aid.
In 2017, Germany has doubled its assistance to Somalia, to 140 million euros. “We hope that others will follow our example,” Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said in London.
