Foreign Minister Westerwelle condemns brutal attack in Afghanistan

26.10.2012 - Press release

During a press conference with his Irish counterpart Eamon Gilmore in Berlin today (26 October), Foreign Minister Westerwelle issued the following statement on the attack on a mosque in Maimana in northern Afghanistan:

“I am utterly appalled by this brutal attack in Afghanistan. I extend my heartfelt sympathy to the friends and families of those killed and I wish the injured a full and speedy recovery.
We condemn this barbaric act. There can be no justification for such cruelty. This atrocious deed brings home to us once more that everything must be done to ensure that the forces of violence and intolerance do not prevent Afghanistan from enjoying a better and peaceful future.
We will remain steadfast in our efforts and in our cooperation to help build a bright and peaceful future for Afghanistan. This barbaric attack will not deter us from supporting the people of Afghanistan on their path towards a better future.”
