The images and news of the catastrophic forest fires raging in California, which have claimed at least 25 lives, are truly shocking.

Our thoughts and sympathy are with those who are mourning or worrying about loved ones and those who have been forced to flee the flames. Like them, I hope that the fires can be brought under control very soon, thus ending the suffering and destruction.
