With the death of Andrzej Wajda, Poland, but also Europe, loses an exceptional director whose ground‑breaking films shaped the world of cinema over many decades far beyond the borders of his home country. Andrzej Wajda was a sensitive and critical chronicler of Polish and European post‑war history. With masterpieces such as “Kanał”, “Ashes and Diamonds” and “Man of Iron” he created milestones in film history and also had great success in Germany with his films and theatre productions.

Andrzej Wajda was an outstanding artist and a great European. We shall miss him.
