Foreign Minister Steinmeier joins efforts to de‑escalate the Nagorno‑Karabakh conflict
A Federal Foreign Office spokesperson issued the following statement in Berlin in the evening of 2 April:
Federal Foreign Minister Frank‑Walter Steinmeier has joined the efforts to de‑escalate the Nagorno‑Karabakh conflict. He is following the situation with particular concern, as the armed clashes are apparently of a different nature than they have been in recent years.
Foreign Minister Steinmeier therefore spoke with Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian on the phone today and will also talk to his counterpart from Azerbaijan.
Steinmeier calls upon the parties to put an end to the fighting without delay. The OSCE and the Federal Foreign Office are monitoring further developments very carefully.
