On 2 April in Berlin, speaking also in his capacity as Chairperson‑in‑Office of the Organization for Security and Co‑operation in Europe (OSCE), Foreign Minister Steinmeier issued the following statement on the situation in the conflict area around the Nagorno‑Karabakh region:
I am deeply concerned about the military escalation on the line of contact in the Nagorno‑Karabakh conflict and the loss of lives, including those of civilians.
I appeal to the parties to put an end to the fighting without delay and to respect the ceasefire in full.
There can be no military solution to this conflict. The parties must now demonstrate the political will to return to the negotiating table under the auspices of the Minsk Group. The Co‑Chairs have my full support in this task.
