Statement by Foreign Minister Steinmeier on the attack in Turkey
Speaking on the margins of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels, Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier issued the following statement on the attack in the Turkish city of Suruç:
I was deeply shocked to learn of the dreadful attack in Suruç.
The Turkish authorities now believe that the attack was an act of terrorism. I am particularly appalled by the fact that the perpetrators targeted an event attended by large numbers of young people. I condemn this despicable act in the strongest possible terms.
I extend my heartfelt sympathy to the relatives of the victims. The attack in Suruç shows that we must not waver in our fight against terrorism. Turkey is a very important partner in this fight.
