13.07.2015 - Press release

Foreign Minister Steinmeier issued the following statement today (13 July) on the death of CDU Member of the German Bundestag and Foreign Affairs Spokesman of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group Philipp Mißfelder:

I was deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden death of Philip Mißfelder. I would like to express my heartfelt sympathy and condolences to his wife and two young daughters. At this difficult time, I wish them strength and fortitude from the bottom of my heart.

I held Philipp Mißfelder in very high esteem as a talented politician who addressed all important foreign policy issues with extensive knowledge and the utmost commitment. I was impressed by how much experience he had acquired at a young age and the manner in which he contributed to political debate. Moreover I am very grateful to Philipp Mißfelder for his committed work as Coordinator of Transatlantic Cooperation at the Federal Foreign Office. We will sorely miss his passion for politics as well as his unrelenting willingness to fight for his beliefs.
