I would like to congratulate all Muslims in Germany and throughout the world on the start of Ramadan! I hope that all of you will be able to celebrate this special month with your families in peace.

Unfortunately that is not something we can take for granted. I know from my conversations that many Muslims are deeply concerned about the almost daily reports of violence, war and terrorism in many parts of the world.

My wish for all of us is that Ramadan, a time of reconciliation and compassion, may this year also be a month of hope.
