German Government condemns attack in Yemen
A Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson issued the following statement in Berlin on the car bomb attack on a police academy carried out in the Yemenite capital Sana’a on 7 January:
The German Government condemns today’s attack on the police academy in Sana’a, which cost the lives of more than 30 people, in the strongest possible terms. We utterly reject any attempt to undermine the transition process in Yemen through acts of violence. The background of the attack must be investigated without delay.
The German Government will continue to support the Yemenite Government in its endeavours to bring about peaceful political transition.
For years, Germany has been providing political and financial support for the national dialogue process in Yemen. It was only in December 2014 that the Secretary Generals of the Yemenite parties agreed on recommendations concerning the continuation of a peaceful transition process at the Potsdam II conference.
