Human Rights Commissioner concerned about action against an Azerbaijani radio station
The Federal Government Commissioner for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Aid, Christoph Strässer, issued the following statement in Berlin today (29 December) on the search of Radio Liberty in Azerbaijan and the arrest of employees of the station:
I am very concerned about the search of the Azerbaijani station, Radio Liberty, on 25 December and by the temporary detention of journalists who work for the station. The German Government will continue to follow this matter closely. I expect the Azerbaijani authorities to allow Radio Liberty to resume its services as soon as possible and to allow its staff to carry out their work freely and without impediment.
I welcome the fact that the Council of Europe is also addressing this matter.
