Welcome
Foreign Minister Westerwelle on the visit of a delegation from the US Congress to Berlin
On the occasion of a delegation from Congress visiting, Foreign Minister Westerwelle issued the following statement today (25 November):
We are pleased that Senator Murphy and Congressman Meeks are visiting Berlin today for an important and well-known reason. The presence of both members of Congress is an expression of the transatlantic partnership and we therefore welcome this visit.
Trust has been lost. We are working together to be able to restore this trust. There are two main points of focus here – transparency for what happened in the past and at the same time clear rules for the future.
We want a healthy balance between the demands of security and those of privacy – that is the spirit in which these talks are taking place.
