Foreign Minister Westerwelle on Libya: Hopes placed in the revolution must be fulfilled and peaceful protests protected
Foreign Minister Westerwelle issued the following statement today (16 November) on the fatal attacks on protesters committed by Libyan militiamen:
I am appalled at the recent bloody fighting in the Libyan capital Tripoli which left so many people dead or wounded. These incidents constitute a serious warning that must be heeded.
I urgently call upon the Libyan Government, Parliament and all political forces to work to bring about a peaceful and democratic transition in a united Libya.
People in Libya have every right to expect that the hopes they have placed in the revolution will be fulfilled. This particularly includes the right to freedom of expression and the protection of peaceful protests.
