The following statement has been issued by a Federal Foreign Office spokesperson:

“At the request of Foreign Minister Westerwelle the Federal Foreign Office’s Political Director met US Ambassador Murphy today for in‑depth talks.

During the meeting he voiced the German Government’s concern in the light of media reports that also EU institutions had been spied on.

In this connection he emphasized the German Government’s clear expectation that the US Administration would now urgently clarify all outstanding issues.”
