Foreign Minister Westerwelle issued the following statement in Berlin today (8 March) on the elections in Kenya:
“The elections just held in Kenya have presented the country with a great opportunity to make a democratic fresh start which is both successful and peaceful.
We are following developments in Kenya with keen interest. It is good that so far the elections have gone off peacefully.
The vote counting process must now be completed in compliance with the law. That is what we expect. This will entail investigating all allegations of manipulation with great care and transparency.
We call on everyone involved to be circumspect and to refrain from inflaming the situation within Kenya.”
