Minister of State Pieper congratulates Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on his election victory

10.10.2011 - Press release

Cornelia Pieper, Minister of State in the Federal Foreign Office and Coordinator of German-Polish Intersocietal and Cross-Border Cooperation, today issued the following statement on the parliamentary elections in Poland:

“The result of the general elections in Poland impressively demonstrates that by steering a clear political course towards greater European integration, economic recovery benefiting all citizens and budgetary consolidation, Prime Minister Tusk’s government has been able to maintain the support of the electorate.
As a more recent addition to the EU and our largest neighbour to the east, Poland – which currently holds the EU Council Presidency – shows that even a new member state can manage to play an exemplary role within the EU. Together with Germany, Poland has the highest economic growth figures in the EU and it aspires to join the eurozone by 2015. This is the first time since 1989 that a Polish government has won a second term in office. Congratulations, Donald Tusk!”
