German-Russian declaration on the Germany Year in Russia and Russia Year in Germany
In Hanover on 19 July during the intergovernmental consultations, Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle and the Russian President’s Special Representative for International Cultural Cooperation, Mikhail Shvydkoi, signed a Joint Declaration of Intent to hold a Germany Year in Russia 2012-2013 and a Russia Year in Germany 2012-2013.
The projects are meant to strengthen the strategic partnership and the cooperation between the countries and also show recognition. Both parties intend thereby to strengthen all aspects of their cooperation in a spirit of partnership in the long term.
The joint motto of the Germany Year in Russia and Russia Year in Germany, “Russia and Germany – shaping the future together”, underscores the forward looking aspect of the bilateral relations. Events are planned in the areas of politics, economics, culture, education, science, and research. As manager of the project, the Goethe-Institut has assumed responsibility for overall coordination. As deputy project manager, the Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations will represent the interests of the German economy in particular.
In 2012, the regional emphasis of the Germany Year in Russia will be on Moscow and St Petersburg, while in 2013 activities will focus on the regions of Russia.
