Foreign Minister Westerwelle deeply shocked by fatal attack on German soldiers in Afghanistan

A German soldier was killed today (18 February) in an attack on Bundeswehr troops in Baghlan province. The latest reports confirm that a further eight soldiers were injured in the attack. Federal Foreign Minister Westerwelle has issued the following statement:

“It was with great shock and grief that I received the news of the death of this German soldier in the province of Baghlan. My thoughts and my deepest sympathy are with his family and friends. To the injured, I wish strength and perseverance for a rapid recovery.
I condemn this perfidious act of terrorism in the strongest possible terms. This was an attack not just against the Bundeswehr but against all those working for a peaceful Afghanistan.”
