Federal Minister Westerwelle rejects Belarusian allegations as groundless

20.01.2011 - Press release

In Berlin today (20 January), Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle had the following to say to claims by the Belarusian Government that Germany was involved in a plot to bring it down:

“The Federal Government categorically rejects these allegations. These baseless accusations are designed to distract us all from the true injustices.
The EU must find a clear political answer to the incidents surrounding the presidential elections and the continued incarceration of opposition politicians and their supporters.”

The Federal Foreign Office is to summon the Belarusian Ambassador without delay and will reject the accusations unequivocally to him in person.
