60 years of UNHCR: key player in refugee protection
In a tribute to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on the occasion of its 60th anniversary, Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle described the organization as a key player in worldwide efforts to protect refugees. Speaking today (14 December) on the margins of the General Affairs Council meeting in Brussels, he said:
“The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees provides invaluable assistance for people in need who have fled their homes. I congratulate the UNHCR on its sixtieth anniversary. In future, too, it can count on our continued support for its important humanitarian mission.”
