Minister of State Pieper on the opening of the German-Turkish University

The German-Turkish University in Istanbul opened its doors on Monday. From now on up to 5000 students will be able to take advantage of lessons in German here. Minister of State Pieper has called the GTU an outstanding project of German-Turkish cooperation.

The German-Turkish University in Istanbul started operations yesterday.Minister of State Piper made the following statement on the occasion:

I am very happy that the German-Turkish University in Istanbul was opened yesterday. The GTU is an outstanding project of German-Turkish cooperation in university teaching and research. With its focus on technology and with German as the main language of instruction, the GTU will form an important bridge between our university systems, one pointing the way forward. I count on the German-Turkish University to be a powerful engine for the expansion of scientific cooperation and student exchanges between our countries.

Background:

The German-Turkish University is a state institution of higher education established by the Republic of Turkey and the Federal Republic of Germany.On the German side, the establishment and operation of the GTU is being supported by a consortium of German universities and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).The university is financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
