A Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson issued the following statement today (18 July) on the support for the ceasefire by the parties to the conflict in eastern Ukraine:
We welcome the agreement in eastern Ukraine on an unlimited ceasefire between the sides involved from 21 July onwards. This ceasefire must tangibly improve the situation for the people in the region. We will continue to insist that the ceasefire be respected in the long term and in full. This also includes the withdrawal of heavy weapons, disengagement of troops and mine clearance. The Minsk agreements remain the essential basis for the peace process in eastern Ukraine.
