The German Government views the announcement that the 2018 presidential elections are to be brought forward to April with great concern. It calls on the Venezuelan Government and all institutions involved in preparing the elections to ensure that the run-up period is of adequate length.

A fair and transparent electoral process is in the interest of everyone concerned as it will lend the future government legitimacy and credibility.
