A Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson issued the following statement today (25 October) on the joint referral regarding the situation in Venezuela by six American countries to the International Criminal Court:
At the end of September, the OAS Member States of Argentina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Paraguay referred the situation in Venezuela to the International Criminal Court (ICC), alleging crimes against humanity. The preliminary examination of the situation in Venezuela opened by the ICC has thus been taken a step further. We expressly welcome that.
We remain concerned about the restoration of the democratic order, respect for human rights and the release of all political prisoners. The dramatic shortages faced by the Venezuelan population must urgently be alleviated.
