In response to the announcement by Israel and the Sudan on the normalisation of their relations, a Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson issued the following statement today (24 October):
We welcome the announcement by Israel and the Sudan on their intention to normalise their relations. Following Israel’s agreements on normalising relations with Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, this is a further important step towards greater stability and more peaceful relations between Israel and its Arab neighbours. The United States played a key role in brokering this agreement, for which it deserves thanks and recognition.
The normalisation agreements of the last few weeks have created a unique momentum that should now be used to achieve durable peace in the Middle East – particularly with a view to resolving the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. The resolution of this conflict is the only way to bring lasting and just peace to the region.
