Minister of State for Europe Roth travels to Spain for political talks

28.11.2021 - Press release

Minister of State for Europe Michael Roth is travelling to Barcelona from 28 to 29 November 2021. On 29 November, the Minister of State will attend the EU-Southern Neighbourhood Ministerial Meeting between EU foreign ministers and the nine Southern Neighbourhood partner countries. Their dialogue will focus on the green transition, the creation of jobs and shorter value chains, as well as the continued development of the architecture of the southern neighbourhood.

Michael Roth will also meet his counterpart Juan González-Barba for political talks, which will focus on the Southern Neighbourhood, the Conference on the Future of Europe and Spain’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2023.

The Minister of State will then visit the German School in Barcelona and hold discussions there with pupils on the future of the EU.

Minister of State Roth issued the following statement today (28 November) prior to his departure:

Our relations with Spain are excellent and we want to further deepen them. We are united by the fact that, first and foremost, we consider the EU to be a community of shared values. We want to strengthen the European Union together, especially within the framework of an ambitious neighbourhood policy.

Current issues such as tackling the pandemic and climate change have shown us that challenges in the EU do not stop at national borders. We can only overcome these challenges together. We will hold discussions on how Spain and Germany can work together still more closely in these areas.
