State Secretary Jennifer Morgan to the German Press Agency (dpa) on the 56th session oft he UNFCCC subsidiary bodies in preperation for COP27

06.06.2022 - Press release

Today the 56th session of the UNFCCC subsidiary bodies is starting in Bonn – important preparations will be made for COP27 in November in Sharm El-Sheikh. Together with the European partners, the German negotiation team will work for more determination and more solidarity in international climate protection.

On this occasion State Secretary and Special Envoy for International Cimate Action Jennifer Morgan stated to the German Press Agency (dpa) on June 6 :

Never before has it been as clear how closely peace, the dependence on fossil fuels and the climate crisis are interlinked. The Russian war of aggression with all the suffering and all the multiple crises it has caused makes us even more determined: The global energy transition is a climate and security imperative.

At the Bonn Climate Change Conference we will prepare important decisions for COP27 in Egypt. Our goal is clear: a global energy transition and greater solidarity with those already being hit by climate impacts. For this we need two things: determination and accountability. It is about getting serious in reducing emissions in order to keep the 1.5 °C goal in reach. At the same time we need more support for those who are affected most severely by the climate Crisis.

Background:

The negotiations of the UNFCCC subsidiary bodies SB56 (Subsidiary body for implementation (SBI) und scientific and technical assistance (SBSTA)) take place in Bonn, June 6 to 16 2022.
