A Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson issued the following statement today (1 February) on today’s telephone call between Foreign Minister Heiko Maas and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi:
Foreign Minister Maas spoke today on the telephone with his Chinese opposite number Wang Yi. He thanked Foreign Minister Wang after China made possible today’s evacuation flight bringing back 100 German nationals and their relatives to Germany from Wuhan, the city hit particularly hard by the current health crisis. He also offered further German support in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.
The two Foreign Ministers spoke about the state of bilateral relations between the Federal Republic of Germany and the People’s Republic of China. They said it was in the interest of both countries to further intensify bilateral relations, champion multilateralism and fight protectionism.
The two Ministers agreed that the EU-China Summit in Leipzig in September 2020 should be used to further intensify cooperation between the EU and China.
