Foreign Minister Maas on the train accident in Turkey
Following the accident this morning in Ankara in which a train collided with a service engine and derailed just after leaving Ankara station, Foreign Minister Heiko Maas issued the statement below (13 December):
We were shocked and saddened by reports of a train accident in Ankara in which nine people lost their lives and many more were injured.
I would like to express my deep sympathy and condolences to the victims and their families. May the bereaved find strength and the injured have a speedy recovery.
As far as we are aware, we must also presume that a German citizen was amongst those who lost their lives.
