Foreign Minister Maas condemns the suicide bombings in Baghdad
Foreign Minister Heiko Maas issued the following statement today (21 January) following multiple suicide bombings in Baghdad, which have so far killed at least 32 people and wounded more than 110.
I condemn today’s attacks in Baghdad in the strongest possible terms and express my deepest sympathy to the families of the victims and to the Iraqi people. I wish the many people who have been injured a speedy recovery.
As a reliable partner, Germany stands shoulder to shoulder with Iraq on its path to long‑term stability and development. We will continue our civilian engagement and military support within the framework of the Global Coalition against Daesh and the NATO mission in Iraq in order to safeguard, together with Iraq, the progress made in recent years in the long term.
