Statement by Foreign Minister Heiko Maas on the “Joint Statement of the US and Germany on Support for Ukraine, European Energy Security, and our Climate Goals”:
We are back to pursuing our shared goals and convictions jointly with the United States with regard to Russia policy and energy policy. It is good that we were able to agree on constructive solutions on the issue of Nord Stream 2. As transatlantic partners, we remain steadfast at Ukraine’s side. Specifically, that means that we will work to secure gas transit via Ukraine for the coming decade. At the same time, we will actively support the Ukrainian economy in its efforts to become more independent and fit for the future with the aid of renewable energies, as well as to develop into a key pillar in a green European energy architecture.
