06.08.2020 - Press release

A Federal Foreign Office spokesperson issued the following statement today (6 August):

Foreign Minister Heiko Maas will depart for a one‑day trip to Moscow and St Petersburg on Tuesday, 11 August.

On arrival in Moscow, Foreign Minister Maas will meet his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. Talks between the two Foreign Ministers are scheduled to take place at the guest house of the Russian Foreign Ministry, followed by a joint press conference.

Foreign Minister Maas will then continue his journey to St Petersburg. This part of the programme will be devoted to commemorating the survivors and victims of Germany’s blockade of Leningrad during the Second World War. In January 2019, Foreign Minister Maas and Foreign Minister Lavrov reached agreement on a humanitarian gesture by the Federal Government for the remaining survivors of the blockade, the implementation of which has now commenced.

Foreign Minister Maas will arrive back in Berlin in the evening.
