The High Election Board has declared the result of the local election in Istanbul invalid and has ruled that fresh elections must be held. We do not consider this decision to be either transparent or justified.
The will of the Turkish voters should be the sole factor determining who becomes mayor of Istanbul. Upholding basic democratic principles by ensuring that electoral conditions are transparent is in our opinion the paramount priority.
