Foreign Minister Heiko Maas will depart for a trip to Argentina and the United States lasting several days on Sunday (20 May).
In Argentina, he will first attend the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting. The G20 Presidency in Argentina bears the title Building Consensus for Fair and Sustainable Development and will follow up on the results of the G20 Summit in Hamburg. The G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting will primarily focus on multilateralism and sustainable development.
Following the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting, Foreign Minister Maas will travel directly to the US to meet Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for his first official visit. Their talks will doubtlessly touch on the nuclear deal with Iran as well as issues relating to trade. Various talks in the US Congress are also scheduled in addition to his meeting with Pompeo on Wednesday.
