Welcome

Innovation Days 2018 of the Federal Foreign Office and the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees

23.04.2018 - Press release

The event was organised by the Federal Foreign Office and the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees. The wide range of global services they provide is ideal for applying innovative digital technology.

These first jointly organised Innovation Days 2018 were designed as a Cross Solution Workshop and brought together drivers of innovation from both the public and the private sector.

The aim of this experimental format was to take technology and applications that appear incompatible and to combine them in ground-breaking ways.

Innovation and the digital transformation cannot be reduced to creating user-friendly application procedures. Rather, it’s about bringing knowledge into the digital age. It’s about making services in the public sector more easily accessible, also in a more integrated way, and about developing new solutions in close cooperation with other federal authorities. We want our visa procedures and the advice we provide abroad to correspond to the image of a modern, innovative and liberal-minded country. The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees and the Federal Foreign Office have set out on this path together,

says Vito Cecere, Chief Information Officer at the Federal Foreign Office.

Drivers of technology, solutions and innovation were called on to participate, regardless of whether or not they had previously worked with a government agency, or planned on doing so. To qualify, the participants had previously submitted their dossiers, which contained examples of applications and the respective solution proposals. The Federal Foreign Office and the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees also held individual preliminary meetings with each IT company and start-up, during which they described both their tasks and the digital technology strategies they are in the process of implementing.

In addition, current challenges and future issues were identified that require a joint examination, at an early stage, of the various personnel and technology aspects, with the aim of establishing efficient, long-term support options that meet the respective legal, security and data protection requirements.
