We welcome the formation of a new government in Iraq under Prime Minister al-Kadhimi on 7 May 2020. This is a positive step towards mastering the considerable challenges facing the country at the present time. In particular, the government must live up to the Iraqi people’s legitimate expectations that they can live in a state which is efficient and protects them. Germany will continue to be a reliable partner at Iraq’s side as it carries out reforms and will maintain its commitment to support stabilisation and reconstruction in Iraq.
