Germany welcomes the ceasefire in Gaza and Israel announced yesterday. We call on the parties to observe it and thank Egypt for its successful efforts to end the violence. We mourn the civilians killed. Our thoughts are with the many wounded.

It is crucial that the civilian population is effectively protected, especially from missile attacks. Another immediate priority now is humanitarian access to Gaza and the supply of essential goods. The aim must remain a lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians which enables everyone to live in security and dignity.
