A Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson issued the following statement today (13 March) on last night‘s ballistic missile attacks on Erbil in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq:
Germany strongly condemns last night‘s ballistic missile attacks on Erbil in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, that were claimed by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. We extend our condolences and solidarity to the residents of Erbil. As a close partner of Iraq and of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, we continue to support joint efforts to strengthen Iraq’s sovereignty, its unity and stability and in the fight against Daesh. Progress made in recent years must not fall victim to regional escalation. Attacks on diplomatic personnel, representatives and facilities of the Global Coalition against Daesh are unacceptable. The perpetrators of this attack must be held accountable.
