Germany strongly condemns today’s drone attack targeted at the residence of Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Kadhimi. We are relieved that the Prime Minister was unharmed in the incident. Our thoughts are with those injured in the attack.

We echo the call of the Iraqi Prime Minister for calm and urgent restraint and encourage all sides to work towards de-escalation and dialogue. Iraq’s democratic process must not be undermined by political violence.

Germany remains a committed supporter of Iraqi sovereignty, democracy and stability and stands by all Iraqi people who work towards a peaceful future.
