Together with its European and international partners, the federal government condemns the Russian Federation’s cyber attack on the KS-SAT satellite network on 24 February, which was targeted against Ukraine. This attack was directly connected to Russia’s attack on Ukraine and was ostensibly aimed at disrupting Ukrainian communications on the day of the invasion.
This cyber attack also led to communication outages with repercussions in the European Union. In Germany, for example, the wind energy sector was affected by disruptions in maintenance operations.
The Federal Government takes the threat posed by such unacceptable cyber attacks very seriously. Cyber attacks on economic stakeholders, critical infrastructures and government agencies are a threat to our security, democracy and free society. Germany is determined to work together with its European and international partners to combat cyber attacks.
