A Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson issued the following statement today (8 March) on the renewal by the parties to the conflict of the ceasefire in eastern Ukraine:
We welcome the fact that the parties to the conflict in eastern Ukraine have agreed to a renewal of the ceasefire. It is important that this declaration also brings about tangible change for the people in the region.
We will continue to insist that the ceasefire be respected in the long term and stabilised through concrete steps, including the withdrawal of heavy weapons, the disengagement of troops and mine clearance.
Even though progress is slow, the Minsk Agreement continues to be the roadmap for peace in eastern Ukraine.
