A Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson gave the following statement today (25 November) on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Kingdom of Bhutan:
As we establish diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Bhutan today, we are delighted to gain a new partner in Asia who is committed to a rules-based, multilateral international order.
Our friendship has grown steadily deeper and stronger over recent decades. Today’s step forward is an expression of this firm friendship. It is an honour for Germany to become one of just 53 states with which the Kingdom of Bhutan maintains diplomatic relations.
The Kingdom of Bhutan is already an important international partner for Germany in many different areas such as climate and environment policy or cultural preservation. This is particularly true in light of the Kingdom’s considerable efforts to preserve valuable cultural and ecological assets. Having formalised our diplomatic relations, we can now continue to deepen our dialogue on political, economic and cultural matters.
