A Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson issued the following statement today (26 July) on the series of attacks in Suweida province in southern Syria yesterday (25 July) in which a large number of people were killed and many others injured:
The devastating dimension of the attacks in Suweida is profoundly shocking. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the victims and their families.
Yesterday’s terrible events provide sad proof that the terror organisation IS, which has increasingly gone underground, still poses a serious threat.
In order to defeat IS permanently, a peaceful solution must finally be found for the entire country. This solution must dry up support for terrorism and alleviate the suffering and hardship of the people in Syria.
