Statement by the Federal Foreign Office on the situation in the Near East

13.12.2018 - Press release

Today (13 December), a Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson issued the following statement on today’s attack in the West Bank:

We have been following reports on growing violence in the West Bank and East Jerusalem over the past few days with grave concern. Two people were killed and two more seriously injured in an attack today on Route 60. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims. We hope that those injured will make a swift and full recovery.

We condemn this murderous and perfidious attack in the strongest possible terms. Such action cannot under any circumstances be justified. The same applies to hate mongering and inciting or attempting to legitimise acts of violence.

We urgently appeal now to all those who can influence the current situation in the West Bank to prevent further escalation.
