Today (13 December), a Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson issued the following statement on today’s attack in the West Bank:
We have been following reports on growing violence in the West Bank and East Jerusalem over the past few days with grave concern. Two people were killed and two more seriously injured in an attack today on Route 60. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims. We hope that those injured will make a swift and full recovery.
We condemn this murderous and perfidious attack in the strongest possible terms. Such action cannot under any circumstances be justified. The same applies to hate mongering and inciting or attempting to legitimise acts of violence.
We urgently appeal now to all those who can influence the current situation in the West Bank to prevent further escalation.
In a gun attack this morning at the intersection leading to the Givat Assaf settlement outpost in the West Bank, approximately 2 km south of Ofra, two Israeli soldiers were killed and two more people seriously injured. In recent days, there has been a spate of attacks and confrontations in the West Bank and East Jerusalem in which a number of people have been killed and injured.
