Niels Annen, Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office, will visit Cuba, Nicaragua and Colombia from 29 October to 4 November.
In Cuba, he will hold political talks, give a speech at the Cuban diplomatic academy and attend the opening of the German Trade and Investment Office in Cuba.
His high level talks in Nicaragua will focus on the current situation in the country. The Minister of State will also meet local politicians and church representatives in the city of León.
During his visit to Bogotá, Minister of State Annen will be updated on the peace process, which Germany is supporting, and discuss the intensification of bilateral relations.
Prior to his departure, Minister of State Annen issued the following statement today (29 October) on the situation in Nicaragua:
During my talks in Managua, the aim will be to identify ways of breathing new life into the national dialogue and to promote a peaceful resolution of the conflict, following several months of violence and unrest.
To this end, I will hold talks with members of the Government and the various groups from civil society and the church, which plays a very important role as mediator.
