Minister of State Niels Annen is visiting Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), from 15 to 17 September 2019. The main focus of his trip will be political talks with the UAE Foreign Minister, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the Minister of State and UAE Special Envoy for Germany, Dr Sultan Al Jaber. During his visit, Minister of State Annen will be concentrating on regional developments and efforts to defuse and de-escalate the political situation in the Gulf region. Minister of State Annen will also meet the Minister of State for Development Cooperation and Expo 2020, Reem Al Hashimy, to discuss the humanitarian situation in Yemen.
Prior to his departure, Minister of State Annen said today (15 September):
The situation in the Gulf region is very tense. I am travelling to Abu Dhabi today to get a view of things on the ground and to discuss various political questions with our partners in the UAE. One aim will be to talk about options for a dialogue among the regional stakeholders on sustainable de-escalation. We will also be discussing the difficult political and catastrophic humanitarian situation in Yemen. I am pleased that we are conducting a regular, frank dialogue on all these issues with our UAE partners. The visit to Germany by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan gave this exchange a boost.
