Minister of State Niels Annen will travel to the Palestinian territories and Israel for political talks on 16 and 17 June 2019.
In Ramallah, he will meet Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh and PLO Secretary General Saeb Erekat. High-level talks with various political representatives and a visit to Yad Vashem are planned in Israel. Minister of State Annen will also meet representatives of Israeli and Palestinian civil society. Prior to his departure, he issued the following statement:
I am travelling to Israel and the Palestinian territories to underscore the Federal Government’s continued support for a two-state solution negotiated between the two parties. I am observing the challenges facing a lasting and just peace with great concern. In Ramallah, the focus will also be on how the Federal Government can promote democratic and economic development and improve the humanitarian situation among the population. In Israel, I would also like to seize the opportunity to take a stand in the debate on growing anti-Semitism in Germany.
