Minister of State Niels Annen is visiting Islamabad from 12 to 13 January 2020. He will hold political talks with Foreign Minister Mahmood Qureshi, Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser and Chief of Army Staff Qamar Bajwa. At meetings with human rights defenders, religious representatives and journalists, he will get an idea of the situation of human rights and freedom of religion in Pakistan. He will also be meeting Pakistan parliamentarians and representatives of political think tanks to discuss the political situation in the country and in the region.
Prior to his departure, Minister of State Annen said today (11 January):
Pakistan plays a key role in the region and also for peace in Afghanistan. At the same time, it offers huge potential for even closer cooperation. The Government has substantially stabilised the security and economic situations. This also brings opportunities for German business.
