First Einstein Humanitarian Dialogue at the Federal Foreign Office

04.12.2018 - Press release

Panel discussion on the global crisis of diplomacy – Germany’s role in the context of war, displacement and the refugee situation

The first Einstein Humanitarian Dialogue will be held at the Federal Foreign Office at 6.00 p.m. today (4 December). The panel will discuss the global crisis of diplomacy – Germany’s role in the context of war, displacement and the refugee situation.

Niels Annen, Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office, will open the event. In the run-up to the discussion, he said:

I am delighted that the International Rescue Committee (IRC) has been based in Germany for two years and is holding the Einstein Humanitarian Dialogue. Eighty-five years after the foundation of the IRC by Albert Einstein, there are more refugees and displaced persons than at any other time since the end of the Second World War. At the time, Einstein said something that the world should recall today: ‘Peace cannot be kept by violence. It can only be achieved by understanding.’ Understanding is created through discussion. For that reason in particular, I look forward to the discussion in the Weltsaal at the Federal Foreign Office.
